Mayo Clinic is seeking a Clinical Medical Physicist to join our main photon group practice in Rochester MN.
Position: The primary responsibilities of our clinical medical physics staff are to support our clinical practice: ensure that patients receive the prescribed dose of radiation to the correct location safely and effectively, to implement new technologies and treatment procedures, and to manage and participate in a robust quality program. We collaborate with Radiation Oncologists, Dosimetrists, Therapists and other staff to optimize our patient treatments. These positions are 100% clinical with opportunities to participate in teaching activities and clinical/research projects according to personal interests.
Department Facilities: The Department’s photon practice treats greater than 250 patients per day. Photon EBRT treatment procedures employ all conventional radiation therapy modalities plus special procedures that include IORT (Linac and Mobetron), TBI, TSET, SRS, SBRT, SFRT, BH, and Orthovoltage. The Brachytherapy practice includes HDR (PHDR, GYN, Breast, Sarcoma, and Bile Duct) and LDR (PSI, Eye Plaques, and Cardiac). The Department maintains a complement of 10 Varian Truebeam Linacs, 1 Ethos Linac, 2 Varian iX Linacs, a Varian EX for IORT, a Mobetron for IORT, a Gamma Knife Icon, GE and Siemens CT simulators with 4D and cardiac imaging capability, a 3T MRI, a Bravos and two VariSource HDR afterloaders, LDR brachytherapy (PSI, Eye Plaques, and Cardiac), and an XStrahl Orthovoltage unit. EBRT treatment planning utilizes Eclipse, with Varian Brachytherapy Planning for HDR, and Variseed for PSI treatment planning. R&V uses the ARIA platform. A full complement of dosimetry and detector systems for photon, proton and brachytherapy are available at all sites.
The Medical Physics Division is comprised of 21 faculty medical physicists, 25 staff clinical medical physicists (9 faculty and 16 clinical physicists in photons), 7 - 9 physics residents/fellows, 4 medical physicist assistants, as well as engineers and IT support. Our primary working principle is that the needs of the patient come first. We are a seasoned and cohesive team responsible for all aspects of therapy physics in support of clinical practice, education and research in radiation oncology in Rochester and at 5 satellite facilities.
