MercyOne Cancer Center in Des Moines, Iowa has 2 openings one for a Hybrid Radiation Therapy Medical Physicist the other for an on-site Radiation Therapy Medical Physicist. The MercyOne medical physics team currently consists of 3 board certified physicists. The preferred candidate will have an MS or PhD and be board certified or board eligible, but all applicants will be evaluated. A good work ethic and ability to work well within a team will be prioritized.

We are seeking a physicist that if, unwilling to permanently relocate, would be available to come on site 3-5 days per month to participate in the monthly QA program as well as provide vacation coverage.
Staffing Levels
When fully staffed, MercyOne Cancer Center Radiation Oncology employs 5 physicists, 5 radiation oncologists, 5.75 EBRT dosimetrists, a 0.5 CK dosimetrist, and 1 dedicated IT resource. Physics staffing is split between a downtown Des Moines clinic within the MercyOne Medical Center and a stand-alone clinic in the western suburb of Clive, Iowa.
Equipment
The equipment at MercyOne's downtown Des Moines clinic includes a Varian EX, Varian TrueBeam, a CyberKnife S7, an Elekta/Nucletron Microselectron V2 HDR unit and a Siemens go.Open Pro CT simulator. The Clive clinic equipment includes a Varian IX, a Varian Trilogy and a Siemens go.Open Pro CT simulator. We also provide services for a third satellite facility in Creston, Iowa that has a Varian IX linac. All of the Varian linear accelerators are serviced under a contract with RS&A.
Software
Major software employed via network/citrix access includes Mosaiq R&V (potential transition to Aria), Eclipse treatment planning, Mobius3D/Fx, DoseLab Pro, ClearCalc, RadMachine and RadCalc. The QA equipment at each clinic includes MapCheck2, Profiler2, and DailyQA3 devices. Shared QA equipment includes the SunNuclear 3D tank for commissioning projects as well as the IC Profiler for annual QA.
Preferred Candidate
The preferred candidate will have an MS or PhD, completed a therapy medical physics residency, and be board eligible or board certified. A good work ethic and ability to work well within a team will be prioritized over experience with technology within our clinic.

MercyOne Des Moines Cancer Center earned the prestigious National Accreditation Program for Rectal Cancer Certification (NAPRC) from the American College of Surgeons (ACS). MercyOne is one of just five programs in the nation to achieve this designation, and the first non-pilot hospital to be accredited. Currently, only 15 hospitals across the country have received the NAPRC accreditation. To earn the voluntary NAPRC accreditation, MercyOne Des Moines Cancer Center met 19 standards, including the establishment of a rectal cancer multidisciplinary team (RC-MDT) that includes clinical representatives from surgery, pathology, radiology, radiation oncology and medical oncology.
The Radiation Oncology Department is ACR Accredited and has maintained the quality necessary for this distinction for more than 9 years.
