Position Summary: The Medical Physicist at WMCC is responsible for the execution of radiation physics procedures, which fulfill the prescriptive intent of the physician.
Essential Functions:
Carrying out the Quality Assurance program.
Implementing new modalities.
Implementing radiation protection and safety procedures.
General problem solving.
Required Education: Master of Science degree in Medical Physics, Radiological Physics, Physics, or related discipline required.
Required Knowledge and Skills: Board certified, or board eligible, by The American Board of Radiology or The American Board of Medical Physics. If board eligible, board exam shall be successfully passed within 3 years of hire. Minimum Two-years of experience performing therapeutic radiation physics in a clinical setting (may include experience gained during residency). Must be proficient in radiation physics, dosimetry, clinical radiation therapy techniques and practices, and the operation of various types of radiation therapy and simulation equipment. Must be able to read, comprehend and follow complicated treatment plans and have the ability to perform complex mathematical calculations. The ability to solve technical discrepancies is required. Previous experience in health care environment highly desirable. Excellent interpersonal skills to interact effectively with management, employees, peers and the public. Demonstrate ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing. Ability to interpret, comprehend and complete complicated and detailed projects in a timely manner. Ability to organize, prioritize and work independently. High degree of integrity to keep confidential all information related to WMCC patients, employees, physicians, and institution related information.
Working Conditions: Normal office working conditions where there is no physical discomfort due to temperature, dust, noise and the like. Exposure to ionizing radiation therapy equipment, which will not exceed the legal limits of occupational exposure.
Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 20 pounds occasionally to waist-high level. Requires sitting/standing for long periods. Manual dexterity required to use computer keyboard or other office equipment. Excellent visual and auditory acuity necessary.
