The CAMPEP approved Novant Health Cancer Institute residency program is currently seeking applications for two Medical Physics residency positions starting on July 2024. This will be a two-year clinical training program in Therapeutic Radiation Oncology Physics.
The training sites will be at Novant Health Weisiger Cancer Institute in Charlotte, NC and Novant Health New Hanover Medical Center in Wilmington, NC. The Charlotte site will host one resident while the Wilmington training site will host another. The program will accept MS or Ph.D. graduates from CAMPEP accredited graduate programs or candidates who have completed sufficient coursework to satisfy the CAMPEP alternative pathway to enter a CAMPEP accredited residency program.
The training will be conducted jointly by the faculty at all sites, which includes 19 faculty medical physicists who participate in wide array of clinical, teaching, and research activities. The Cancer Institute also has 2 current Medical Physics Residents, 20 dosimetrists, 19 Radiation Oncologists, 3 Medical Physics Assistants, 4 IT specialists, and various supporting staff. The residents will actively participate in routine clinical services under the supervision of board-certified medical physicist.
The Novant Health Weisiger Cancer Institute is a new center equipped with 2 Varian True Beams, 2 CT scanners, and 1 Nucletron HDR afterloader. The Novant Health New Hanover Medical Center is equipped with three linacs (Varian Halcyon, Varian True Beam Edge, and Varan iX), a Siemens CT scanner, and Elekta Nucletron HDR after loader.
Eclipse, MIM, and ARIA are used for treatment planning and R&V. Several special procedures are offered such as HyperArc SRS, SBRT, Y-90 Theraspheres, TBI, LDR Brachytherapy, and a busy HDR program treating T&O, Vaginal Cylinder, and Prostate HDR.
