We are inviting applications for two resident positions at the CAMPEP-accredited Medical Physics Residency Program (https://icahn.mssm.edu/medicalphysicsresidency) at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City. These three-year training positions will begin on July 1, 2024. Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree from a CAMPEP-accredited graduate program or have completed a CAMPEP-accredited certification program. Candidates should have excellent communication skills both verbally and in writing. The program strives to prepare the residents to pursue professional careers and positions of leadership in Medical Physics.
The three-year program consists of one year of research and two years of clinical training. The department has a strong clinical research program, receiving multiple federal awards. Successful candidate will have opportunities to participate in ongoing research projects in the areas of artificial intelligence in radiation oncology, clinical informatics, innovative imaging and treatment device development, treatment outcome assessment, and proton therapy research. The residency curriculum follows the recommendation of AAPM Report #249. Comprehensive clinical training will be provided through 12 clinical rotations that cover all areas of clinical medical physics services, including: clinical dosimetry; treatment planning (3D, IMRT, VMAT, SRS, SBRT); IGRT; Brachytherapy (GYN/Prostate HDR, LDR, IVBT, XOFIGO, INTRABEAM IORT, Skin Therapy, Eye Plaque); machine QA and commissioning; special procedures; and proton treatment.
The Department of Radiation Oncology presently has 18 full-time board-certified medical physicists, 12 dosimetrists, 2 medical physics residents, and 31 radiation oncologists practicing throughout the Mount Sinai Health System, treating approximately 230 patients daily. Our state-of-the-art treatment devices include: 11 Varian Linacs; Gamma Knife; ZEISS INTRABEAM unit; Philips, Siemens, and GE CT simulators; Brainlab Elements and Eclipse treatment planning systems; Nucletron Flexitron and Varian VariSource HDR afterloaders; AlignRT and RPM for motion management; MapCHECK, ArcCHECK, and Portal Dosimetry for IMRT/VMAT QA. A web-based platform has been developed and implemented to improve the efficiency of clinical workflow and automates many clinical tasks. The residents will have the teaching opportunity at the Stony Brook University/Mount Sinai medical dosimetrist school. As part of the department’s long-term growth strategy, we plan to install five additional Varian TrueBeam Linacs within the next five years. Mount Sinai is one of the three partner institutions working with the New York Proton Center, the first of its kind located in Manhattan close to The Mount Sinai Hospital.
Our program (code 25011) participates in the Medical Physics Match Program (https://natmatch.com/medphys/). Interested applicants should submit their application through the AAPM Medical Physics Residency Application Program (MP-RAP) (https://mprap.aapm.org/). The application deadline is 01/01/2024. For any questions regarding the application process, please contact Ramona Tirado, residency program coordinator at ramona.tirado@mountsinai.org.
The application must include the following:
Letter of Interest including research experiences
Applicant’s CV
Three Letters of Reference
Copy of transcript with CAMPEP coursework
Mount Sinai Health System is an Equal Opportunity, Affirmative Action employer and we encourage qualified women and minority applicants. Applicants must be legally eligible to work in the United Sates.
