Gundersen Health System in La Crosse, WI is recruiting for a radiation oncology medical physicist at the physicist or senior physicist level to support oncology services at the La Crosse, WI and Tomah, WI campuses. The radiation oncology physicist works with a treatment team of two other physicists, four radiation oncologists, four dosimetrists and 15 radiation therapists. All of our team strives to provide high quality care at our ACR-accredited facility.
The La Crosse site includes three Varian TrueBeams, Bravos HDR, Siemens go, Open Pro, an active SRS/SBRT program, respiratory gating and Identify currently being installed. The Tomah, WI site includes a TrueBeam accelerator with respiratory gating and a scheduled Identify install.
Physics QA Platform: Sun Nuclear 3D scanning system, MapCheck, ArcCheck, ICProfiler and SunCheck software for machine and patient QA.
Dosimetry Software: Eclipse and Aria V16, MIM, ClearCheck, ClearCalc, Limbus auto contouring, and BrachyVision for HDR.
Major Responsibilities 1. Collaborates with other senior staff to maintain the Quality Assurance (QA) program to comply with national standards. Monitors and measures the performance of all radiation therapy equipment. Calibrates radiation therapy equipment and performs QA as required. 2. Evaluation and implementation of new technology and techniques. Ensures proper radiation protection standards are followed when implementing new equipment. Performs acceptance and commissioning of new equipment and educates staff on new technology and its implementation. Releases new technology for clinical use. 3. Performs measurements, analysis and modeling of beam data for treatment planning purposes. Verifies all data and algorithms in the treatment planning system. Maintains all aspects of the treatment planning process. 4. Completes dosimetry plan checks, final completion checks, weekly chart checks, maintains templates, checklists and therapy equipment in record and verify system.
Education and Learning:

Master’s degree in Medical Physics, Physics, or a related discipline

License and Certifications:
REQUIRED
American Board of Radiology (ABR) certification in Therapeutic Medical Physics or the American Board of Medical Physics equivalent in Radiation Therapy Physics within 2 years of start date or The American Board of Medical Physics equivalent in Radiation Therapy Physics upon hire.
For Senior Physicist position, must have upon hire American Board of Radiology (ABR) certification in Therapeutic Medical Physics or the American Board of Medical Physics equivalent in Radiation Therapy Physics. In addition, must obtain the status of Authorized Medical Physicist through the state of Wisconsin and be listed on the radioactive materials license list the company holds within 1 year of hire date
