UPMC Hillman Cancer Center located in Williamsport, Pennsylvania is seeking a full-time Medical Physicist. This role will provide medical physics services at UPMC Williamsport – Divine Providence Campus. Our radiation oncology centers are ACRO-accredited, equipped with state-of-the-art Varian linear accelerators with on-board kV imaging, EPID, OBI/CBCT imaging, respiratory gating, RapidArc, and SRS/SBRT, HDR brachytherapy,and GE CT scanner, and utilize ARIA and Eclipse for documentation and treatment planning. Primary responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to, regular quality assurance testing of radiotherapy equipment and treatment delivery processes, dosimetric calibration of radiation therapy equipment, SRS/SBRT and IMRT treatment planning and delivery, and oversight of 4D-CT and gated radiation therapy, and various types of brachytherapy procedures. Active participation in clinical and developmental research projects is encouraged.
The successful candidate will join a team of 2-Radiation Oncologists, 2-Dosimetrists, and 6 Radiation Therapists. They will have the full support of the Medical Physics Division. The Division’s goal is to scale advanced techniques across the network to enable high-quality care close to patients’ homes. The successful candidate should have demonstrated clinical skills and is expected to function independently with excellent oral and written communication skills.
Responsible for overseeing the work of the dosimetrist and ensuring that complex treatments are properly tailored for each patient while working with the Radiation Oncologist to plan treatment delivery to patients. Responsible for developing and directing quality control programs for equipment and procedures, ensuring the equipment works properly by taking precise measurements of the radiation beam, performing clinical physics duties of maintaining Commonwealth regulatory compliance, and calibrating all radiation therapy equipment.
Responsibilities:
Fulfills the physics needs relative to radiation therapy to include both routine and non-routine dosimetry, calibration of machines, the treatment area, and brachytherapy.
Participates in brachytherapy procedures.
Provides consultative services to hospital staff relative to radiation activities including Radiation Safety Committee. Maintain documentation as appropriate.
Performs commissioning on radiation therapy equipment as required or requested.
Performs and documents all quality assurance and quality control associated with physics.
Conducts in-service programs for hospital staff relative to radiation safety and the ALARA program and maintains documentation as appropriate.
Performs surveys to evaluate shielding requirements and radiation exposure limits. Maintains documentation of results and follow-up actions.
Documents billing charges for physics procedures performed by physicists.
Establishes and documents physics/dosimetry policies and procedures.
Calibrates instruments and documents as required including dosimetry, survey, and check instruments.
A physical science or engineering degree is required, medical physics is preferred. Master's degree is required. Two years of Radiation Oncology Physics experience is required.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: American Board of Radiology (ABR) in Therapeutic Radiological Physics or ABMP Certification is required.
Must be eligible for Part 2 of ABR.

UPMC Williamsport Cancer Center is a community cancer center in North-Central Pennsylvania. Our Radiation Oncology department has the following equipment: Varian Linacs- EDGE (New), Trilogy, Varisource HDR and, GE -CT lightspeed simulator. Software to include Aria-EMR, Eclipse-Planning, Rad calc, RPM motion management system.
