Inova Department of Advanced Radiation Oncology and Proton therapy is seeking a Medical Physicist in Fairfax, Virginia. Both junior and senior candidates are welcome to apply. The successful candidate will join a dedicated team of 20+ physicists, 20+ dosimetrists and 3 physicist assistants to provide clinical physics services and promote department research/education outputs.

Designs, and performs research projects and promotes research outputs.
Provides educational activities to medical school students, dosimetry students, therapy students, and medical physics residents.
Provides support to the dosimetry team in treatment planning.
Provides support to the radiation therapy team in patient treatment.
Works closely with radiation oncologists in every aspect of patient’s radiation therapy.
Develops, and performs routine quality assurance of patient’s plan and the system.
Validates new devices, equipment or tools in patient’s treatment.
Requirements:
A master’s degree in physics or a related field is required, a doctoral degree in Physics or a related field is preferred.
Strong communication skills – both orally and in writing are required.
The American Board of Radiology (ABR) eligible is required, the ABR certified is preferred.
Availability to work outside of normal business hours (nights and weekends) is required.
Knowledge of scripting is preferred.
Experience with Aria R&V system, Eclipse, Raystation or Precision treatment planning system, MIM is preferred.
Strong research background is preferred.
Inova Department of Advanced Radiation Oncology and Proton therapy is an international center for advanced cancer care and research, serving Northern Virginia, the Washington DC metro area, and the world beyond. With locations across the northern Virginia, the department can treat patients at Alexandria, Fair Oaks, Fairfax, Loudoun and Woodbridge where it’s most convenient for the patients. Across the system, equipment includes IBA Proteus Plus Proton (2 treatment gantries) with scanning beams, 5 TrueBeams with HyperArc, 4 Trilogys, 1 M6 CyberKnife, 3 HDR units, 2 IORT units, 1 3T MRI and 6 simulation CTs, including one 256 channel dual-energy CT. Trilogies will be replaced by modern adaptive treatment platforms including Halcyon/Ethos in coming years. External planning is done with Eclipse and RayStation while using Aria for patient data management. The full-time physicist will provide all clinical duties as required mainly for Inova Schar Cancer Institute/Fairfax but will have opportunities to work at other Inova locations depends on the need. The physicist will report to the Director, System Chief of Medical Physics and work under the direction of physicians from Radiation Oncology Associates group. The ideal candidate will be energetic and well-trained, possess excellent communication and collaboration skills, and have interest in potential career advancement within the Inova Health system.
Inova supports effort on research and education. The department of Advanced Radiation Oncology and proton therapy is working with University of Wisconsin-LaCross for the master level dosimetry program to provide clinical training. The department is also to start a medical physics residency program. A successful candidate would have the opportunity to apply for faculty appointment from the University of Virginia (PhD level physicist), the University of Wisconsin-LaCross (master or PhD level physicist) and/or the George Mason University (PhD level physicist).
