SLUCare Physician Group, a member of SSM Health, is seeking applicants for a non-tenure track appointment in the radiation oncology department as a Medical Physicist. The appointment can start at the level of instructor. Salary is dependent on qualifications and experience. Educational requirements are a Master’s degree or higher. Board Certification is preferred. The department houses two Varian TrueBeams and offers intra-cranial Stereotactic Radiosurgery, SBRT, VMAT, 3D Conformal and Total Body Radiation capabilities along with a variety of image-guidance tools including optical surface monitoring, respiratory gating, and ExacTrac Dynamic.
Under the supervision of the chief medical physicist, the Medical Physicist maintains the Quality Assurance program of dose delivery systems and performs various aspects of treatment planning, including contouring of dose-limiting structures, designing radiation treatment plans to deliver precise levels of radiation doses with optimal beam geometry, assisting in tumor localization using multi-modality image fusion including CT, MRI, PET, and 4D-CT, and assisting in optimizing simulation setup. The Medical Physicist consults with the therapists and radiation oncologists throughout planning and ensures correct implementation of treatment plans. Additional tasks may involve teaching and training of students, residents, junior staff, and therapists in the principles of radiation physics, treatment planning systems, and department policy and procedures, assisting in testing/validation of new procedures and treatment techniques with senior physicist, and attending workshops and/or lectures to further professional skills.
