Senior or Staff Medical Physicist – Photon/Proton Miami Cancer Institute, Baptist Health South Florida
The Department of Radiation Oncology at the Miami Cancer Institute (MCI) is recruiting a qualified physicist at the Staff or Senior Physicist level. The ideal candidate will have clinical experience in advanced radiotherapy techniques, a Ph.D. or M.Sc. in Medical Physics or related discipline, and certification/board eligibility in therapeutic medical physics from the American Board of Radiology (ABR) or American Board of Medical Physics (ABMP). Competitive salary and level appointment is commensurate with experience and certification.
The Department of Radiation Oncology’s clinical program which is housed in the Miami Cancer Institute on the campus of Baptist Hospital in South Miami is equipped with the latest radiotherapy technology. Our current clinical program includes 3 TrueBeam linear accelerators, a Radixact (Tomo) unit, CyberKnife M6, Gamma Knife Icon, ViewRay MRIdian LINAC, 3 Siemens CT simulators with 4D capabilities, two HDR units and active programs in conformal radiotherapy, IMRT, VMAT, IGRT, brachytherapy and SRS/SBRT. Additionally, the department is equipped with the latest, gantry-based IBA proton delivery system. The proton center has 3 gantry rooms in which pencil beam scanning is solely used. Each gantry room is equipped with a 6 DOF robotic couch, on-board cone-beam CT, and surface imaging system. The Department currently uses ARIA, MIM Maestro, and Eclipse TPS software platforms for the photon treatment units and RaySearch TPS for proton treatment plans.
The candidate will join a medical physics team to establish a successful clinical and research program at MCI. The medical physics team is responsible for all clinical medical physics aspects such as acceptance testing, commissioning, quality assurance, systems integration and validation, radiation safety and treatment planning support. Additionally, the medical physics team will lead all the technical efforts associated with the establishment of a new equipment and delivery techniques. Educational opportunities will arise as multiple educational programs will be developed in the coming years in conjunction with Florida International University (FIU) as well as a Medical Physics residency program. The candidate is expected to be actively involved in the departmental education and research activities and will receive an academic appointment in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine at FIU.
