The Department of Radiation Oncology at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for an Associate Professor or Full Professor position in the non-tenure clinician educator track. Expertise is required in the specific area of image-guided intervention/radiotherapy; MRI-based treatment planning, AI experience in biomarker development and advanced image analysis for clinical application. Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree. DABR (Diplomate, American Board of Radiology) certification is required.
Teaching responsibilities may include teaching and training radiation oncology residents, medical physics residents, and students in the graduate medical physics programs, including the PhD program. As a leader in physics research, the candidate will also help mentor junior faculty to enhance and grow physics research productivity.
Clinical responsibilities may include supporting a full range of clinical physics activities, such as proton therapy, linac-based radiation therapy, brachytherapy, etc. at the Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine. The position will have a minimum of one day in clinic per week.
Research or scholarship responsibilities may include actively and independently contributing to departmental research. The preferred candidate will have current/active NIH grant-funding in place. Research and clinical application of research in image-guided intervention, multimodality medical imaging, machine learning, as well as image registration and segmentation is preferred. The department has a range of innovative research projects, which include but not limit to proton and x-ray FLASH therapy, real-time adaptive radiotherapy, motion management, auto-planning, and robustness optimization, etc. With increasing needs in automation and clinical decision support, candidates with clinical experience in implementing artificial intelligence or machine learning algorithms into clinical practice are encouraged. The position is not a pure research position; demonstration of clinical translation of research/new technology is essential. Evidence of scholarship is required in the Clinician-Educator track.
Penn Radiation Oncology is dedicated to a three-part mission of excellence in patient care, basic and translational research, and the education of residents and medical students. Penn Medicine delivers a broad range of radiation therapy services to its patients, including intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), high-dose-rate (HDR) brachytherapy, partial breast irradiation, and stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS/SBRT using Gamma Knife /Cyberknife/Varian Linac). Patients will also have access to proton therapy at the Roberts Proton Therapy Center, housing the largest proton therapy facility in the USA, comprising four gantry treatment rooms and one fixed beam room.
