What does the Medical Physicist do?
The Medical Physicist is responsible for the design optimization, technical evaluation, and precise and accurate delivery of radiation treatment plans. Responsible for the safety of patients and staff. May participate in clinical, research and educational duties. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.
Facilities and Equipment:
The Texas Oncology- Abilene practice provides a full range of external beam radiation therapy procedures. Equipment in use at the Abilene locations includes 1 Varian True Beam, GE CT, MOSAIQ ROIS, Eclipse, and RadCalc used to treat 25-30 patients per day. The successful candidate will join one other on-site board certified physicist and our team of 5 board certified radiation oncologists, 5 board certified medical physicists, 6 dosimetrists, 12 radiation therapist, 5 chief radiation therapists, and 6 CT technicians. All sites share a single database for ROIS, treatment planning, 2nd check program, and SNC SunCHECK. QA tools include, but are not limited to Profiler2, MapCheck3, SNC Routine, and 3D scanning system.
The essential duties and responsibilities:
Full range of on-site clinical medical physics support.
Serve as the primary remote physics support for sites within the region
Occasional, as need, travel to sites within the region for on-site physics support
Determines the need for, specifies, and accesses dosimetric and treatment planning equipment including, but not limited to, measurement instruments to calibrate all treatment equipment and monitoring devices, computerized treatment planning systems, computerized water phantom systems with appropriate ionization chambers and diodes, etc.
Advises and consults with physicians to provide advice or direction to technical staff when patients are being planned or treated.
The ideal candidate for the Medical Physicist will have the following background and experience:
Master’s degree in Medical physics from a CAMPEP accredited college or university.
Graduate from a CAMPEP accredited residency program.
ABR board certification or in the process of obtaining certification (e.g. new resident graduate).
Eligibility for a Texas license.
Experience with SRS, SBRT, and HDR strongly preferred.
Strong organization and oral / written communication skills.
Working knowledge of:
Varian linear accelerators
MOSAIQ Radiation Oncology Information System
HDR, SBRT and SRS procedures

Minimum Qualifications: The successful candidate will have the following minimum qualifications:
Master’s degree in Medical physics from an accredited college or university.
ABR board certification (or equivalent) or have completed a CAMPEP approved residency, be board eligible and be in the process of obtaining certification by the American Board of Radiology
Eligibility for a Texas license
Minimum of 2 years of experience
Willing to consider an entry- or mid-level candidate with strong clinical background.
A working knowledge of SRS, SBRT, and HDR
Experience with Varian linear accelerators as well as Nucletron/Oncentra
Strong organization and oral / written communication skills
The ability to travel on an occasional, as needed, basis
