Position Description:

The Department of Radiation Medicine at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center (RPCCC) is seeking a medical physicist to join 9 other physicists, 4 medical physicist assistants and 1 IT specialist in the support of all clinical physics activities offered in the department and its satellite facilities. Clinical colleagues include 11 radiation oncologists and 11 dosimetrists. RPCCC is one of 53 NCI-Designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers in the nation.

Treatment equipment at the main campus located in downtown Buffalo includes four Varian linacs (mixture of TrueBeam and Trilogy units), an Elekta ICON Gamma Knife unit, an Elekta HDR afterloading unit, a GE Discovery 16 slice CT simulator, an XStrahl superficial x-ray unit, and a Varian Eclipse treatment planning network. Treatment techniques offered in the clinic include SBRT, SRS, TBI, TSEI, and a busy brachytherapy practice including HDR IORT. We are actively pursuing acquisition of technology to enable us to offer on-line adaptive radiation therapy to our patients. Medical physics faculty also provide services to 1 local and 3 regional satellite facilities, all equipped with state-of-the-art treatment planning and delivery technology. It is expected that the successful applicant will join current faculty in providing clinical services to the main campus and satellite facilities.

All physicists are encouraged to pursue professional leadership activities that align with RPCCC’s mission, such as executive service, board appointment, and committee membership within the AAPM and its sister organizations. Academic engagement including basic and applied research, development of new treatment techniques, and teaching / mentoring MS and PhD students enrolled in the CAMPEP-accredited medical physics graduate program at the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the Buffalo campus of the the State University of New York (SUNY) is also encouraged. An appointment at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor is possible depending on the successful applicant’s research and teaching experience.

Qualifications:

The position requires an MS or PhD in Medical Physics and graduation from a CAMPEP-accredited Medical Physics Residency Program or equivalent clinical experience. Board certification (or eligibility) by the ABR is required, possession of or eligibility for a NY State license to practice therapeutic radiological physics is required, and participation in the ABR MOC program is expected.
