About University of Maryland
The Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Maryland provides a full range of clinical radiation oncology services at the main campus of the University of Maryland Medical Center, the Maryland Proton Center, and at three well-integrated community practice centers. All practice sites are connected via a telemedicine network facilitating frequent interactions between facilities. The Medical Physics Division is currently comprised of 27 faculty physicists, 17 dosimetrists, 5 information technology administrators and several post-doctoral fellows/graduate students. Services and technologies provided include conformal radiotherapy, IMRT, VMAT, on-line portal imaging, image-guided radiotherapy using kV imaging, cone-beam CT, Vision RT, and Calypso; stereotactic radiosurgery/radiotherapy and brachytherapy are also provided. The Department is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment including 5 Varian TrueBeam, 4 Varian Trilogy, 2 Varian Clinac IX, and a Varian Edge Stereotactic Linac,1 Gamma Knife Perfexion unit, a GammaPod (the world’s first breast- radiosurgery unit), 2 Nucletron HDR units, 1 Bravos HDR unit, 6 Vision RT Systems and several multi-slice large bore CT simula...tors with 4D capabilities. The Maryland Proton Treatment Center is a state-of the art facility opened over three years ago and includes one dual energy CT simulator and a dedicated MRI unit. The Department has access to clinical PET/CT and MR scanners. The department benefits from collaborations with a very well-funded radiation biology program which has access to four biological kV irradiators, including a state-of-the-art image-guided small animal radiation research platform (SARRP). Other campus-wide shared resources include small-animal imaging CT, PET and MR scanners. Treatment planning systems from multiple vendors include RaySearch, Philips, Varian, and Oncentra. Employer and Environment: The main facility for the Department of Radiation Oncology is located in downtown Baltimore, close to the Inner Harbor waterfront and professional sports stadiums. We are surrounded by historic neighborhoods with unique shops and restaurants for every style and taste. We also benefit from being in close proximity to a myriad of museums, musical and dramatic arts venues, and wonderful walking, hiking and biking trails and BWI airport.
