The University of Kansas Health System is a world-class academic medical center and destination for complex care and diagnosis. We offer more options for patients with serious conditions because of our expertise and leadership in medical research and education. Our physicians are researchers and educators expanding the boundaries of medical knowledge. Their major breakthroughs lead to life-changing treatments and technologies of the future.
In 1998, the Kansas Legislature created The University of Kansas Hospital as an independent authority. Since then, the hospital has gone from facing enormous challenges to being recognized as one of the nation's top academic medical centers. In 2016, the hospital integrated with The University of Kansas Physicians to become The University of Kansas Health System, expanding our ability to provide the best care to even more patients across our region and beyond.
Today the health system includes more than 100 locations, more than 12,500 employees and more than 1,000 physicians. In addition, our Care Collaborative helps extend the reach of academic medicine to dozens of hospitals and providers across the region.
