Role Summary

GenesisCare is seeking highly qualified candidates for the position of US Head of Physics.  The candidate will be responsible for US oversight and management of the Physics and Dosimetry Departments for GenesisCare US. The US Head of Physics will ensure fulfillment of the GenesisCare mission including advancing research and innovation, developing and maintaining a world-class clinical medical physics program, and has overall accountability for the quality and delivery of medical physics services. The US Head of Physics is responsible for supporting the Clinical Physics and Technology operational and clinical metrics across all US divisions. The position requires the highest standards of ethics, compliance oversight, and accountability.

GenesisCare is dedicated to patient-centered, specialized care. The successful candidate will oversee physics strategy and operations over six divisions that span all geographic regions in the US.  Strategy and operations include but are not limited to: new linear acceleration installations, treatment planning automation, medical physics research, and continued support of the most advanced treatment and image-guidance technologies.

The applicant should have extensive experience in managing and overseeing clinical physics duties, working with industry partners, and have a keen interest in mentoring senior and junior physicists. Applicants with experience as a program director or clinical director are preferred.  Requirements include a Master’s or Ph.D. degree in Medical Physics or in an equivalent field, certification by the American Board of Radiology in Therapeutic Radiological Physics, a demonstrated clinical competency in radiation oncology and a significant track record of excellence including publications in medical physics.

Reporting lines:

As the US Head of Physics, you report directly to the Global Head of Clinical Technology and Innovation. Reporting lines and direct reports may change from time to time in line with the requirements of the position.

Your key responsibilities:

Development of a national clinical physics strategy that:

• Promote the technology and physics roadmap throughout the US to help improve patient outcomes.
• Provides the leadership necessary to maintain quality patient care services requiring progressive, technologically advanced procedures.
• Collaborate with radiation oncologists, divisional physicists, dosimetrists, IT specialists, and administrators to improve performance, efficiency, and standardization
• Cultivate teamwork and GC culture across the US regional centers for physics and dosimetry with your division
• Manage the divisional physics executives to ensure the efficient and effective provision of calibration and maintenance of therapy units, radiation sources, and other relevant major equipment to sustain efficient and accurate operation across the US
• Manage the division physics executives, insuring proper records and correspondence pertaining to quality control and quality assurance, calibration, radiation safety and compliance with state and Federal regulations and standards of accrediting bodies

Lead in the development of a national advanced radiation therapy strategy that:

• Provides advanced physics expertise for radiation oncology services including IMRT, VMAT, SRS, SBRT, IGRT, and Brachytherapy
• Identifies and promotes the selection, installation, and implementation of new radiation therapy technology
• Develops and implements stereotactic radiosurgery capabilities for metastatic disease management
• Works alongside radiation oncologists, physicists, dosimetrists, IT specialists, and administrators to improve performance, efficiency, and standardization

Leadership, Operational Management and Continuous Improvement

• Lead change towards a GenesisCare advanced physics research model
• Take a leadership role globally in collaboration and partnership with the CLF & TRGs
• Contribute to the development and ongoing evaluation of advanced therapy techniques and protocols

Risk & Compliance

• Ensure all relevant physics and dosimetry staff are aware of, trained in and adhere to automation requirements including:
  • GenesisCare policies and procedures;
  • Work instructions;
  • Clinical protocols and procedures; and
• Protect and secure the integrity of patient and imaging data for the team.
• Assist in the implementation of equipment replacement including but not limited to training, change management, protocols/procedures and resourcing

Your key working relationships:

As the US Head of Physics, you need to develop strong relationships with the following internal parties:

• Global and In-Country Heads of Physics
• SOF Senior Leadership team
• Oncology Leadership teams, including: General Managers, Chief Medical Officers, Quality Improvement Manager, Heads of Disciplines (e.g. Physics, Nursing, PSO, Dosimetry)
• Global functions leadership team, including: Finance, P&C, IT, Brand & Marketing, Legal etc.        

Experience:

• M.S. or Ph.D. in Medical Physics or equivalent
• Minimum of 15 years’ experience in a medical physics and clinical background
• Experience in working across multiple geographic regions
• Experience in developing comprehensive quality programs and a service quality scorecard
• Experienced with Radiation Oncology and Radiology equipment installation, acceptance, calibration, and commissioning
• Certification by the American Board of Radiology in Therapeutic Radiological Physics
