Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, is seeking qualified applicants for Staff Clinical Medical Physicists in the Division of Medical Physics, Department of Radiation Oncology, to support our growing practice. The primary responsibilities of our Medical Physics staff are to ensure that patients receive the prescribed dose of radiation to the correct location safely and effectively, to implement new technologies and procedures and to manage and participate in a robust quality program. We collaborate with Radiation Oncologists, Dosimetrists, Therapists and other staff to optimize the treatment of our patients. The proton center contains a Hitachi synchrotron-based 4 gantry plus single fixed beam treatment system. The proton beam is 100% spot scanning with kV, (Siemens) CT on Rails and (VisionRT) surface image-based IGRT. Over 100 patients are treated daily with protons, representing all treatment sites and using a range of hypo-fractionated, SBRT, anesthesia and motion managed (localization and treatment) techniques. Treatment plan optimization is carried out using either Eclipse or our in-house Monte-Carlo-based robust software. Patient specific QA consists of an independent physical and biological dose second calculation plus measured and calculated plan metrics. Many of these technologies and techniques are under continued development. The Department also maintains a complement of 11 Varian Truebeam, 2 Varian iX, a Gamma Knife Ikon, GE and Siemens CT simulators with 4D and cardiac imaging capability, a 3T MRI, two VariSource HDR, LDR brachytherapy, XStrahl Orthovoltage, Eclipse, ARIA and a full complement of dosimetry and detector systems for photon, proton and brachytherapy. This equipment supports all conventional radiation therapy procedures plus specials that include IORT, TBI, TSET, HDR, SRS, SBRT, and LDR. The Medical Physics Division is comprised of 18 faculty medical physicists, 24 staff clinical medical physicists (11 faculty and 7 clinical staff in protons), 7 residents/fellows, 3 medical physicist assistants, 2 post-doctoral fellows, as well as engineers and IT support. The Division is a seasoned and cohesive team responsible for all aspects of therapy physics in support of clinical practice, education and research in radiation oncology in Rochester and at 5 satellite facilities. Radiation Oncology has facilities that include Rochester, Mankato, Northfield and Albert Lea in Minnesota; and La Crosse and Eau Claire in Wisconsin. We have major sister facilities in Scottsdale, AZ and Jacksonville, FL. The Mayo Rochester campus is the largest and central location for the radiation oncology practice. Ranked No. 1 on the US News Best Hospitals Report, Mayo Clinic in Rochester offers an excellent salary and benefits package. Mayo provides a robust infrastructure to support the clinical practice, research and education at all sites. Mayo strongly values family time and supports a favorable, team-based working environment. Located in Southeastern Minnesota, Rochester is a growing and diverse community of over 100,000 people. It is an exceptional place to live and raise a family. The Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul are a short drive from any of our clinics. Outdoor activities on the lakes, rivers and trails abound. Mayo Foundation is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer/educator. Qualifications Qualified candidates must have a M.S., M.M.P., D.M.P., or Ph.D. in Medical Physics or a master's and/or doctoral degree in Physics or a related field. In addition, candidates must meet one or both of the following requirements: completion of a CAMPEP accredited residency in Therapeutic Medical Physics, certification by the American Board of Radiology in Therapeutic Medical Physics (or equivalent certification). Previous proton experience is not required. If you are not a United States citizen, please indicate your non-immigrant status and if you will need assistance from Mayo Clinic to obtain work authorization.
