Medical Physicist Position Joe Arrington Cancer Center (JACC) is a subsidiary of the major medical center called Covenant Health System (CHS) located in Lubbock, Texas. The CHS has 3 facilities, Covenant Medical Center, Covenant Women and Children Hospital and Joe Arrington Cancer Center (JACC). JACC is a comprehensive outpatient facility dedicated to treatment of cancer patients with radiation therapy and chemotherapy. The department of Radiation Oncology has an opening for ONE Senior Medical Physicist and ONE entry level Physicist. The candidate must hold a Master’s Degree and be ABR certified in therapeutic Radiology Physics or have passed or eligible for Part I, II of the ABR certification examination in clinical radiation therapy. Candidates completing residency in Medical Physics (Therapeutic) will be considered for entry level position. The physicists will join with a Chief Medical Physicist, one Licensed Medical Physicist, two CMDs and several therapists. The department currently has 2 high energy Elekta linear accelerators, Versa HD and Infinity with 160 MLC, CBCT and VMAT capabilities on both machines. Versa has FFF and 4D dynamic imaging capability for SBRT. Simulation is performed using GE Discovery large bore CT scanner with 16 slices/rotation. HDR brachytherapy is performed using Oncentra with TCS V2 unit located in a dedicated procedure suite. For treatment planning, we use Monaco with MC calculation software at 3 work stations. The machines and treatment planning systems are linked to Mosaiq record and verification. The facility has a Perfexion Gamma Knife unit for stereotactic radiosurgery.
JACC offers physics support for an outpatient Radiation Center equipped with Varian Cl21iX with ARIA/ Eclipse system and GE CT simulation unit. This center is located 5 miles away and has a full time dosimetrist and treats about 25 patients /day. JACC also offers physics and dosimetry support for a cancer center at Lovington, New Mexico, which is equipped with Elekta Infinity linear accelerator, GE CT scanner, and Monaco treatment planning station. Joe Arrington Cancer Center currently treats 40 patients per day on external beam 2 SBRTs/day, 120 patients/year on Gamma Knife and 3 to 4 patients/week on HDR. We perform CT based treatment planning for all HDR brachytherapy treatments using Savi, Fletcher Suit GYN applicators and interstitial catheter and needle implants. We also offer radiopharmaceutical therapy using Y-90 Zevalin for non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, Sm-153 Quadramet and Ra-223 for bone metastasis, Lutathera 177 for GI cancers and I-131 therapy for thyroid carcinoma. Interested candidates must email their CV or call cell #806-577-1341 for more information.
