The Department of Radiation Oncology at The University of North Carolina (UNC) is seeking a medical physicist to provide clinical radiation therapy physics services for UNC’s North Carolina Cancer Center, located in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
The successful candidate for this position must have the following qualifications: (1) an MS or PhD in Medical Physics; (2) be ABR/ABMP board certified or board eligible (passed Part 1); and (3) have graduated from a CAMPEP-accredited residency and top-tier CAMPEP-accredited graduate program in Medical Physics.
Department Marketing Statement
The North Carolina Cancer Center is currently staffed with 11 Radiation Oncologists, 5 Dosimetrists, 12 Medical Physicists, and 1 IT specialist. The North Carolina Cancer Center clinic is equipped with 2 Elekta Versa accelerators, 1 Elekta Infinity accelerator, 1 CyberKnife system, 1 Tomotherapy Hi-Art system, 1 Mobetron intraoperative accelerator, 1 Elekta HDR system, a VariSeed LDR prostate system, and 2 Phillips large bore CT simulators. Clinical treatment planning systems (TPS) include Raystation TPS, Accuray Precision TPS for CyberKnife and Tomotherapy, Oncentra HDR Brachy TPS, and VariSeed LDR Brachy TPS; Record and Verify uses Mosaiq. Ancillary systems include VisionRT and Calypso.

Specific Job Related Duties
The candidate will provide clinical radiation therapy physics services for IMRT/VMAT, IGRT, SBRT, SRS, Intra-op and brachytherapy programs. The candidate will also perform staff physicist duties such as chart checking, machine calibrations, and quality assurance. The candidate will participate in acceptance and commissioning of equipment, gathering of dosimetry data, and commissioning of external beam and brachytherapy treatment planning. The candidate will be responsible for the precise and accurate delivery of radiation treatment plans and for the safety of patients and treatment staff.
Research: The successful candidate will be required to participate in clinically-oriented development projects with a research component.
Residency Program: The department supports a CAMPEP-accredited Medical Physics Residency Program and, as such, mentoring of residents is expected.
