Texas Oncology is excited to announce an incredible opportunity seeking a full-time, vibrant, team-oriented Medical Physicist to join our regional group of three radiation oncology centers located in the Rio Grande Valley.

Texas Oncology has more than 150 sites of service throughout Texas, with more than 350 physicians dedicated to serving our patients. On average, we treat more than 50,000 new cancer patients each year, with documented growth year over year. Texas Oncology pioneered the concept of community-based, outpatient, multidisciplinary cancer centers. We give local communities access to leading-edge technology that was previously only available in larger metropolitan areas. Texas Breast Specialists and Texas Urology Specialists are a part of Texas Oncology. Facilities and Equipment: While operationally independent day-to-day, each center collaborates as three fully staffed, Texas Oncology clinics in the Rio Grande Valley (McAllen, Harlingen and Brownsville) through sharing of a common, single database for record and verify, treatment planning (conventional and SRS), 2nd check program, Profiler2, MapCheck2, ATLAS, and 3D scanning system.
We are in the midst of upgrading treatment and imaging equipment. Collectively, four Varian linacs, a shared mobile Nucletron HDR with Oncentra, three CT simulators, and a mobile PET/CT are used to treat an average of 70-80 patients a day at the three sites. Equipment details: McAllen- Varian 21iX with 120 Millennium MLC and OBI (kV and CBCT), 21EX (80 Millennium – soon to be 120 and Carestream CR System), Siemens Somatom (20 slice) CT; Harlingen - Varian 2100CD with 120 Millennium and Carestream CR System (looking to upgrade this unit soon) and a GE CT (4 slice); Brownsville - Varian 21iX with 120 Millennium MLC and OBI (kV and CBCT) and a GE CT (4 slice).
Combined, the fully staffed region will consist of 3 board certified radiation oncologists, 2 ABR certified physicists, 3 certified medical dosimetrists, 6 radiation therapists, and three chief therapists.
As an integral part of Texas Oncology, you will appreciate the opportunity to corroborate with other network physicists who are eager to share their expertise. Texas Oncology also provides many vendor webinars, its own journal club and the opportunity to serve on many physics committees.

This position would be based in McAllen which boasts top-scale restaurants, manicured golf courses, and a progressive style typically found in large cities while the surrounding communities highlight the small-town friendly atmosphere which defines the Valley. Additionally, just over an hour’s drive away, are the warm gulf waters of South Padre Island – a vacation and deep sea fishing mecca!
The ideal candidate will have: • ABR board certification, or equivalent • a valid Texas state license • 5+ years of experience • A working knowledge of SRS, SBRT, and HDR • Experience with Varian linear accelerators • Strong organization and oral / written communication skills
Preferred Experience: • Eclipse • HDR planning and treatment • MOSAIQ • SBRT and SRS procedures
