Radiation Therapy (PhD level) - Baylor Scott and White Health Temple and Round Rock-Austin Region
The Division of Medical Physics of Baylor Scott and White Healthcare, Department of Radiation Oncology is seeking three (3) PhD-Level Medical Physicists in Radiation Therapy to join our team and to support clinical operations in the Central Texas area. There are two (2) PhD-Level positions available in Temple and one (1) PhD-Level position available in Round Rock. These positions will be joining 9 PhD-level physicists and 2 MS-level physicists covering 5 clinics; Temple, Killeen, Waco, College Station and Round Rock. All three positions will be primarily clinical position. However, the two Temple positions will have some academic and research opportunities while the Round Rock position will be strictly clinical. All three positions will require the ability to plan SRS (cone and MLC based) and SBRT to support both clinics. Among the five clinics, there are 4 Varian TrueBeam, 2 Varian 21EX, 3 Varian Varisource, 1 Elekta Flexitron and 6 CT simulators.
The successful candidate will participate/lead clinical projects and work with other members of the radiation oncology team to provide highest level of clinical service. Primary responsibility for this position includes, but not limited to;
acceptance/commissioning of radiation therapy machines/software/equipment,
continual quality assurance (external beam, brachytherapy, and CT simulator) and dosimetry calibration of various equipment
external beam treatment planning (3D, IMRT, VMAT, SBRT, and SRS) using Varian Eclipse treatment planning system and BrainLab iPlan and Element treatment planning system
brachytherapy treatment planning (HDR and Savi)
physics support for SBRT, SRS, brachytherapy (HDR and Savi), 4DCT, and organ motion management.
Performs and evaluates patient related dosimetric measurements to evaluate treatment quality
Participates/leads in strategic planning and/or implementation of new policies
Leads/participates/coordinates clinically related research projects
Supervises state and federal regulatory compliance
The successful candidates need to have demonstrated clinical skills in these areas and has exceptional communication skills (oral and written) and operate independently with good clinical judgement. The successful candidates will directly report to the Director of Medical Physics in Temple, TX. This position will require the following minimum criteria:
PhD in Medical Physics, Physics, Nuclear Engineering or other related physical science degree
Passed part 1 of ABR board certification
Must have Medical Physicist License (full or temporary license) by the Texas Medical Board before the start date
Completed CAMPEP-accredited clinical residency training
The successful candidate will join a rapidly growing and dynamic division of thirteen full-time physicists (accounting for Central and North Texas), eight dosimetrists and four physics residents. Along with four radiation oncology residents, Baylor Scott and White Health has thirteen Radiation Oncologists with significant experience in a wide variety of specializations. The Physics Division provides physics support for Baylor Scott and White Health Radiation Oncology operations at many sites in the heart of Texas: Temple, Killeen, Waco, Waxahachie, Irving, Duncanville, College Station, Round Rock and Rowlett.
