The Radiation Oncology Physicist works with a treatment team of two other physicists, four radiation oncologists, three dosimetrists, and 13 radiation therapists providing high-quality care at an ACR-accredited radiation oncology facility. Duties include machine calibration, quality assurance, IMRT QA, HDR and LDR brachytherapy, departmental radiation safety and education to dosimetry and radiation therapy interns. A satellite facility was opened in summer of 2019 in Tomah, WI. Physics coverage of the satellite is rotated among the physics group.
The La Crosse site includes a Varian Clinac 21EX, two TrueBeam linear accelerators, Varian HDR, a GE Light Speed scanner, an active SRS/SBRT program and respiratory gating. The Tomah site has a new TrueBeam accelerator.
Physics QA Platform: Sun Nuclear scanning system, MapCheck, ArcCehck, Profiler, and SunCheck software.
Required: CAMPEP accredited residency or board eligible
Preferred: ABR certification
Calibration of external beam treatment machines, radioactive sources and simulation equipment to maintain compliance with national standards.
Responsible for the implementation of all aspects of patient dosimetry.
Responsible for all aspects of Radiation Oncology Department radiation safety practices, including personnel exposure monitoring and reduction, equipment monitoring room shielding, brachytherapy source ordering, shipping, receiving and inventory, patient surveys, and regulatory compliance.
Assures physics presence at all brachytherapy patient treatments.
Performs patient specific radiation physics consultations as requested by the Radiation Oncologists.
