Forrest General Hospital is stable, busy department treating an average of 80 plus patients daily with treatment modalities that include; External Beam Radiation Delivery using 2D, 3D, IMRT, SRS/SBRT with IGRT, HDR and LDR for prostate seed implants.
Our current technology includes: Varian TrueBeam and Trilogy external beam accelerators, an Elekta (Nucletron) Micro-Selectron HDR, a Philips Big Bore CT, Eclipse, Variseed and Oncentra treatment planning systems. We are a paperless ARIA facility management operation with an EPIC -electronic medical record system.
We have also just completed a third vault to receive a new Varian Edge (1/2020) with Hyper Arc and SGRT to enhance our already robust SRS/SBRT program.
Staff Physicist will be responsible for all aspects of clinical Radiation Oncology Physics including but not limited to Quality Assurance and calibration of treatment equipment, oversight of patient dosimetry, daily-weekly charts check, IMRT QA, commissioning of new equipment, treatment planning systems, ensuring compliance of NRC and State Regulations including Radiation Safety and Licensing. Assist in treatment planning, including IMRT in collaboration with the medical Dosimetrist and radiation oncologist. Performs Brach therapy planning and calculations, periodic calibrations for the existing linear accelerators and CT/ simulators as required. Measures output factors as required. Reviews patient charts as instructed by the radiation oncologist and also provides supporting documentation. Performs treatment planning intermittent periods as the situation demands. Participates in repair and trouble shooting of equipment through on-call service support. Staff Physicists will report to Radiation Oncology Service Line Administrator and Chief Physicist. Demonstrates knowledge and skills to appropriately communicate and interact with the patients, families, and visitors of all age groups while being sensitive to their cultural and religious beliefs.

It is situated in close proximity to several major cities, such as New Orleans, Mobile, Jackson, and Gulfport (1.5-2 hours driving). Hattiesburg offers a variety of attractions and activities. The historic districts are some of the most intact neighborhoods in Mississippi. The Mobile Street District preserves the city's African American heritage, and the Hub City, North Main and Oaks Historic Districts feature tree-lined streets and buildings dating back to the 1880s. We are also the home to the University of Southern Mississippi.
On a final note, Mississippi's temperate climate and abundance of waterways make it a popular location for outdoor lovers. Outdoor lovers can enjoy large forested areas, including National Parks, swamps, rivers, and beaches on the Gulf of Mexico.
