The University of Florida Health Proton Therapy Institute (UFHPTI) invites qualified candidates to fill an opening for a position of a Medical Physics resident, available to start as early as January 1st, 2020. The UFHPTI training program curriculum is designed to fulfill ABR requirements for obtaining Board Certification in the area of Therapy Medical Physics within 3 years. Qualified candidates with a considerable prior proton therapy experience may be offered a two-year track that focuses predominantly on photon and electron external beam radiation therapy as well as brachytherapy. This advertisement marks the third year of UFHPTI based Medical Physics Residency Program. Formerly a part of a two-year Physics Residency Program at University of Florida in Gainesville (established in year 1995), UFHPTI has a strong track record of training 11 residents since its opening in 2006. Now UFHPTI offers a rigorous clinical curriculum by experienced and enthusiastic University of Florida Radiation Oncology physics faculty team of 11 physics faculty members (8 board certified physicists) and UFHPTI Medical Dosimetry staff. Residents have ample opportunities to interact and collaborate with radiation oncology physicians, residents and fellows, as well as faculty physicists in clinical services and research. UFHPTI Medical Physics Residency program received CAMPEP accreditation in July 2019. In addition to the CAMPEP Accredited Residency, UFHPTI has an on-going Structured Mentorship program in Medical Physics with 2 current trainees. UFHPTI is a multi-modality Radiation Oncology facility treating in excess of 130 patients a day. The patients are treated using 3 linear accelerators (two Elekta SynergyTM and one HD-MLC TrueBeamTM by Varian, all CBCT-equipped) and 5 proton treatment rooms (including 2 gantries delivering treatments using pencil beam scanning technique, 2 gantries treating passively scattered beam and one dedicated eye proton treatment room). Two CT and one low-Tesla MRI scanners provide necessary imaging for treatment planning and treatment adaptation. UFHPTI is accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR) and is one of the four cancer centers in Florida that are state-designated Cancer Centers of Excellence. The range of external beam treatment techniques used at UFHPTI spans from 3D CRT to image guided IMRT and VMAT, SBRT and SRS. LDR Brachytherapy treatments using Cs-137 and Ir-192 are performed on-site, while HDR Brachytherapy and LDR prostate seed implant treatment technique are performed and taught as a part of a dedicated clinical rotation based in University of Florida Gainesville, FL. PhD or Masters degree in Physics, Engineering or closely related field is required. Such a degree from a CAMPEP-accredited institution is strongly preferred, otherwise a prospective candidate should be nearing graduation or have graduated from a CAMPEP Accredited Certificate program. Ability to perform and communicate effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team working in a fast paced clinical
