Provides consultation services to physicians and staff regarding the safe use of radiation for therapeutic purposes. Performs daily clinical tasks pertaining to chart checks, initial plan checks, patient specific QA, or other special procedures as needed. Performs routine quality assurance on linear accelerators, CT simulators, and other devices as needed. Oversees the use of radiation in radiation oncology for the Sanford system to ensure safety and compliance with professional accreditations as well as state and federal requirements. Helps to integrate and implement new technology and software related to the clinic. Utilizes knowledge of physics and technology as a resource when consulting with physicians.
Responsible for the safe and accurate administration of therapeutic radiation. With two other physicists, shares the responsibility for: weekly, monthly, and annual quality assurance tasks on TrueBeam STx, Siemens Oncor, and TomoTherapy Hi-Art linear accelerators, routine HDR quality assurance, brachytherapy treatment plans, and source exchanges for GammaMed+ HDR Afterloader. Chart checks, Plan Checks, special procedure oversight, and other testing/validation as required. Develops procedures for and educates staff in the implementation of new technologies. Assists in the delivery of IORT therapies using Xoft electronic brachytherapy. Collaborates with others in the continuous quality improvement.
Masters degree, PhD, or DMP in medical physics.
Two years experience working radiation oncology.
Board Certified or Board Eligible in Therapeutic Medical Physics by the American Board of Radiology or related certification board.
