JOB TITLE: Radiation Physicist PhD

Provides and/or supervises the functioning and activities on matters including dosimetry, calibration, treatment planning and safety equipment. Maintains equipment and regulatory records, and bills for services. Supports departmental research activities and clinical protocols, as well as education for residency programs within Radiation Oncology. Performs duties to support the goals and objectives of Geisinger in its efforts to provide quality patient care and patient satisfaction.
COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:
Clinical support of linear accelerator treatments, including patient simulation, image fusion, treatment planning, secondary dose calculation, plan quality assurance and reviews of treatment plan safety and quality
Clinical support of brachytherapy procedures
Preparation and updates of physics/dosimetry policies and procedures as required
Coordination of physics aspects of the department’s research program, including support for existing departmental and national research protocols
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Requires knowledge of radiation therapy physics as well as regulatory and accrediting agencies. PhD in Medical Physics or equivalent field is required. Certification by the American Board of Radiology or the American Board of Medical Physics in Therapeutic Radiological Physics and a minimum of 5 years of work experience in the field of medical physics is required.

GEISINGER MEDICAL CENTER: (GMC), located Danville, Pa., the largest tertiary/quaternary care teaching hospital in the region, is licensed for 475 beds, including 89 pediatric beds in the Janet Weis Children’s Hospital. GMC, a Magnet Hospital, maintains the region’s only Level 1 Regional Resource Trauma Center with additional qualifications in pediatrics. GMC offers an array of highly specialized medical and surgical services, including neurosciences, cardiovascular services, transplantation, women’s health (in the Women’s Pavilion), oncology and orthopaedics.
