Medical Physics: Diagnostic Imaging, Medical Physics: Radiation Oncology
The Radiation Oncology Physicist works with a treatment team of 2 other physicists, 4 Radiation Oncologists, 2 Dosimetrists, and 11 Radiation Therapists providing high-quality care at an ACR-accredited radiation oncology facility. Duties include machine calibration and quality assurance, IMRT QA, HDR & LDR brachytherapy, departmental radiation safety, education to dosimetry and radiation therapy interns. Gundersen is in the process of opening a satellite radiation oncology department in Tomah, Wisconsin. Physics coverage of that facility will be rotated among the group.
The La Crosse site includes a Varian Clinac 21EX and two True Beam linear accelerators, Varian HDR, and a GE Light Speed scanner. We have an active SRS/SBRT program and utilize respiratory gating. The Tomah site has a new Varian True Beam.
Physics QA Platform: Sun Nuclear scanning system, MapCheck, ArcCheck, Profiler, and SunCheck software.
Dosimetry software includes: Eclipse and ARIA version 13 systems (Version 15.5 upgrade scheduled), MIM image fusion system, VariSeed prostate seed and BrachyVision HDR planning systems.
Required: CAMPEP accredited residency or board eligible
Preferred: ABR certification
Calibration of external beam treatment machines, radioactive sources and simulation equipment to maintain compliance with national standards.
Responsible for the implementation of all aspects of patient dosimetry.
Responsible for all aspects of Radiation Oncology Department radiation safety practices, including personnel exposure monitoring and reduction, equipment monitoring room shielding, brachytherapy source ordering, shipping, receiving and inventory, patient surveys, and regulatory compliance.
Assures physics presence at all brachytherapy patient treatments.
Performs patient specific radiation physics consultations as requested by the Radiation Oncologists.
