The Department of Medical Physics at St. Peters Health Partners Cancer Center is seeking a motivated Radiation Oncology Medical Physicist with great interpersonal skills to join a collaborative and supportive group consisting of 3 Certified Medical Physicists, 3 Certified Medical Dosimetrists, a Physics Residency Program Director, and two Medical Physics Residents. The successful applicant will work in the Capital Region’s leading cancer treatment program which offers an excellent opportunity for career development and advancement. Although the preferred applicant will be a Board Certified Medical Physicist, the minimum requirement for this position is a Master's Degree in Medical Physics and board eligibility.
The Department of Medical Physics is part of the Radiation Oncology program at St. Peter’s Health Partners comprised of two Radiation Oncology departments located 15 miles from each other: St. Peter's Hospital in Albany, NY and Samaritan Hospital in Troy, NY. The primary location for this position is at Samaritan Hospital. Samaritan Hospital is equipped with a Varian 2100iX Linear Accelerator with Portal dosimetry which will be replaced by a Varian True Beam with RapidArc and 6DOF couch at the end of 2019. The department will be implementing surface guided radiation therapy and the current CT/Sim will be replaced with a new Siemens CT simulator with 4D functionality. The department uses Eclipse/Aria V11 for treatment planning/record and verify which will be upgraded to V15.6 with RapidPlan and Multi-criteria Optimization in July of 2019 as well as the addition of Velocity for automatic segmentation, deformable registration, and plan sums taking into account dose delivered from different treatment modalities.
Current equipment at St. Peter's Hospital includes two Varian 2100ix Linear Accelerators, both with RapidArc, CBCT and 6DOF couches. One accelerator is setup with AlignRT for surface guided and deep inspiration breath hold treatments. The second has BrainLab's Exactrac positioning and monitoring system to help accurately treat patients in our active SRS/SBRT program. This machine also has an SRS beam and fine beam isocenter specifications. For the simulation and planning the department relies on a dedicated large bore Siemens Sensation Open CT scanner with 4D functionality. While the majority of the treatment planning is performed using Varian’s Eclipse V13.6, there is an active SRS/SRT program which makes use of BrainLab’s iPlan and Multiple Mets treatment planning software. The department also has MIM Maestro software for automatic contouring, deformable registration, and plan sums accounting for different dose fractionations. There is an active HDR program treating GYN cases using a Nucletron afterloader and Oncentra Masterplan for treatment planning. The record and verify system is Mosaiq V2.64.
QA equipment and software consists of a PTW 3D scanning tank, SunNuclear 1D tank, Profiler, ArcCheck, MapCheck2, daily QA3 devices, DoseLab Pro, and various PTW ion chambers and diodes.
The Physics Department’s Medical Physics Residency Program is hospital funded and currently in its 7th year. We have 2 residency positions and our residents are part of the McGill University CAMPEP approved residency program. Our medical physics staff are expected to play an active role in the hands-on teaching of our residents, and our close affiliation with the McGill program provides our program additional educational stimulation and insights.
