The Department of Radiation Oncology at the VagelosCollege of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University Irving Medical Center is seeking a full-time, board-certified faculty physicist to join our dynamic physics team at Columbia University Irving Medical Center in Washington Heights, NYC. The department also staffs our two regional facilities in Westchester: Lawrence Hospital, in Bronxville (an affluent village about 20-minutes from Manhattan) and Hudson Valley Hospital in beautiful Cortlandt Manor, New York.
Columbia University’s Radiation Oncology department offers a full range of treatment modalities including 3DCRT, IMRT/VMAT, IGRT, Gamma Knife, SRS/SBRT, TBI/TSE, IORT, IVBT, HDR, prostate seed implants, and eye plaque brachytherapy.
Successful candidates must have a M.S./Ph.D. degree in Medical Physics or a related field. Board certification in Therapeutic Radiological Physics by the ABR is a prerequisite for appointment (or passing grade on ABR Part II written exam) and a New York State Medical Physicist–Therapeutic Radiological license is required by hire date.
The physics group currently has seven physicists and six dosimetrists covering all campuses. The primary responsibility of this position will include medical physics coverage associated with radiation oncology services under the guidance of the Director of Medical Physics. Some teaching and research responsibilities are anticipated. Duties also include maintenance of the QA programs and performance of special procedures. The successful candidate should have demonstrated clinical and research skills in medical physics with a track record of research publication, and is expected to function independently with excellent oral and written communication skills. The department also has a CAMPEP-accredited Medical Physics Residency program with two resident slots.
