Medical Physics: Radiation Oncology, Medical Physics: Radiation Oncology Dosimetry, Medical Physics: Radiological Physics - General
The Allegheny Health Network Cancer Institute Department of Radiation Oncology is expanding and recruiting to fill 5 new positions for assistant to associate professor level medical physicists over a period of 6 months. We currently have 11 hospital based and freestanding facilities in Western Pennsylvania and Ohio. In this year, we are adding four new facilities, and finishing the construction of a state-of-the-art academic cancer center at AHN’s main campus, Allegheny General Hospital in Northside of Pittsburgh.
AHN Radiation Oncology will include five HDR units, a GammaPod, a GammaKnife Icon, a Unity MR-Linac, two ExacTrac systems, an MR-Simulator, 15 4D CT Simulator, one Varian, one Siemens and 16 Elekta Versa HD Linear Accelerators, . We currently employ 23 physicians and 19 physicists. We are starting our medical physics residency program this year, which will consist of two years clinical training and one year clinical research, we will have an additional three physicists training at any given time. The primary responsibility of these physicists will include medical physics coverage at satellite facilities and/or the academic cancer center as well as academic activities depending on candidates’ qualifications. Some teaching and research contribution are highly encouraged. A faculty appointment may be available at Drexel University.
The 1st position will be for a faculty-level MR scientist who has experience with MR QA and software programing at Allegheny General Hospital’s academic cancer center. This faculty is expected to work on MR 50% of the time and on research and development the other 50%.
The primary responsibility of 2nd and 3rd physicists includes medical physics coverage at the Saint Vincent Hospital facility in Erie, Pennsylvania. The senior physicist will serve as the clinical chief, while supervising and working with a junior physicist at the same site. The successful senior candidate should have demonstrated clinical skills in medical physics with a record of clinical procedure implementations. Clinical management experience is highly encouraged. The candidate must be board certified in Therapeutic Radiological Physics by the American Board of Radiology. The Saint Vincent facility will be equipped with a new Elekta VersaHD coupled with an ExacTrac motion-management system, a new Siemens 4D CT simulator, an ABC system for respiratory motion management and an Elekta HDR afterloader in a newly built state of the art treatment facility. This center will open in October 2019, and senior staff is expected to begin work between May and September. The exact date will depend on the candidate’s experience with Elekta treatment machines and software, as well as with the HDR afterloader. If training is needed, a start date 3-4 months prior to the opening in October is preferred. Ideally, the senior physicist will be able to familiarize themselves with our system in Pittsburgh at our main and satellite centers before the Erie facility opens in October. Eligible candidates for the junior physicist position may be new graduates finishing a CAMPEP accredited residency in 2019, but must have passed part 1 of the ABR Therapeutic Radiological Physics exam. Erie, PA, is a fourth-largest city in Pennsylvania, located halfway between the cities of Buffalo, NY and Cleveland, OH, and less than two hours due north of Pittsburgh. It is a great place to enjoy outdoor activities including golfing, hiking, sailing, and skiing.
The 4th and 5th positions are at the Peters Township Health and Wellness Pavilion which is half an hour south of downtown Pittsburgh, and Westmoreland Hospital Center which is roughly 45 minutes southeast of Pittsburgh. Each site will have a brand new Elekta VersaHD Linear Accelerator, and one 4D CT simulator. Experienced physicists or new graduates finishing a CAMPEP accredited residency in 2019 (passed part 1 of the ABR) will be considered.
Competitive Salary and Benefits will be provided. AHN is an Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action Employer - Race/Gender/Disability/Veteran.
All applications (cover letter with a clinical interest, and CV including 3 references) should be sent to Cathy McElroy, firstname.lastname@example.org. Please specify which position you are applying for. Doctorate degree is preferred, however, master degree will be also considered. For more information, please email to Jason.email@example.com.
