Inova Schar Cancer Institute (ISCI) is seeking a Proton Physicist in Fairfax, Virginia. Both junior and senior candidates are welcome to apply. The physicist provides clinical physics and dosimetry services and promotes department research outputs.
Performs tasks of acceptance of a new proton treatment system and commissioning of treatment planning system
Provides support to the dosimetry team in patient’s planning
Provides support to the radiation therapy team in patient’s treatment
Works closely with radiation oncologists in every aspect of patient’s radiation therapy
Develops, and performs routine quality assurance of patient’s plan and the system
Validates new devices, equipment or tools in patient’s treatment
Designs, and performs research projects and promotes research outputs
A master’s degree in Physics or a related field is required, a doctoral degree in Physics or a related field is preferred
Strong communication skills – both orally and in writing are required
The American Board of Radiology (ABR) eligible is required, the ABR certified is preferred
Availability to work outside of normal business hours (nights and weekends) is required
Knowledge of scripting is preferred
Experience with Raystation treatment planning system is preferred
ISCI is an international center for advanced cancer care and research, serving Northern Virginia, Washington DC metro area, and the world beyond. The radiation department will start treating patient in the spring of 2019 with conventional radiotherapy in the new facility. Conventional radiotherapy treatments are delivered using two Varian TrueBeam linear accelerators, one Varian Trilogy linear accelerator equipped with CBCT, one M6 Accuray CyberKnife and brachytherapy. ISCI will start treating patients with image-guided proton pencil beam scanning (PBS) therapy using an IBA Proton Therapy System with two treatment gantries at the end of 2019.
Aria is used for record and verify and for patient scheduling and billing. Dosimetry is a paperless department. RayStation TPS is used for proton, photon, and electron planning. Accuray Precision TPS is used for CyberKnife planning.
