General summary/purpose: The Russell H. Morgan Department of Radiology and Radiological sciences of Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine Diagnostic Medical Physicist position is focused on providing diagnostic imaging physics support for all medical imaging modalities located at the Johns Hopkins Medical Institution (Johns Hopkins Hospital). The imaging equipment consists of 19 CT scanners including 2 PET/CTs and 8 SPECT/CTs, 18 MRI Units, 18 specialized procedural suites (Radiology & Cardiology), 28 fixed radiography/fluoroscopy units, 29 mobile fluoroscopy units and 25 portable radiography units, 2 Tomosynthesis units and a stereotactic biopsy unit, more than 30 ultrasound units, and a number of medical imaging research units. In total, there are more than 140 x-ray tubes currently registered with the State of Maryland.
Specific Duties/Responsibilities: Completing quality assurance surveys including acceptance testing on all types/modalities of radiological imaging equipment, new equipment specification and acceptance evaluation; image quality assurance; radiation dosimetry; and computerized data analysis. Equipment survey include State of Maryland, American College of Radiology (ACR) and Joint Commission required testing of diagnostic modalities such as radiography, fluoroscopy, mammography, ultrasound, CT and MR units.
Support clinical medical physics of diagnostic x-ray imaging modalities to maintain compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements.
Assist when necessary with research support, resident teaching as well as health system staff training and education.
Assist with administrative efforts with regards to inspections and regulations.

Minimum qualifications: Master’s degree in Medical Physics with strong diagnostic medical physics background and experience is preferred. Candidates should have at least 3-5 years of experience working with radiology imaging equipment of all modalities including fluoroscopy, radiography (CR/DR), mammography (Tomosynthesis), CT, MRI, Ultrasound and PACS.
Technical qualifications or specialized certifications: Certified by the American Board of Radiology in Diagnostic Radiological Physics or an equivalent certification from the American Board of Medical Physics in the necessary specialty as appropriate is desirable. At a minimum, board eligible candidate is expected to attain certification within three years. Once obtained, individual is expected to maintain certification through duration of employment.
Special knowledge, skills, and abilities: Effective interpersonal communication, team work skills, open to work on new clinical research projects is preferred.
