The medical physicist is a member of the WCHN radiation oncology team who will work under the direction of the chief physicist and whose routine clinical duties will focus on patient QA, including initial, weekly, and end-of-treatment chart checks, as well as calibration, QA, and QC of medical linear accelerators, treatment planning systems, HDR brachytherapy, CT simulators, and patient dosimetry systems. The physicist will also perform brachytherapy and SRS treatment planning. Good communication skills are essential, as the physicist will consult with physicians, physicists, dosimetrists, and therapists across the hospitals of the WCHN and Memorial Sloan Kettering (MSK) Cancer Center networks and will be involved in the education of staff members as new radiotherapy planning and delivery techniques are introduced.
The appropriate candidate will join a Norwalk Radiation Oncology department which currently consists of 2 physicians, 2 medical physicists, 2.5 dosimetrists, one CT simulator, 1 HDR unit, and two linacs with state-of-the-art inter- and intra-fractional imaging and motion monitoring capabilities.
This third physicist position is being added to support departmental growth and advances as part of the MSK Physicians at Norwalk Hospital program, under which, the physicist will go through training and credentialing in the MSK techniques and methodology for linear accelerator QA/QC, brachytherapy, SRS planning, and plan checking. The physicist will also participate in major departmental initiatives scheduled to occur in the near term, which include: acceptance testing and commissioning of a new linear accelerator, introduction of an LDR prostate program, and the expansion of the MSK Physicians at Norwalk program to other hospitals in the WCHN network.
Requirements: MS in physics, medical physics, or related field (PhD preferred), eligible for ABR certification in radiotherapy physics (ABR or ABMP certification preferred). Candidates with experience in brachytherapy and the application of multi-modality imaging in RT would be ideal.
