The Medical Physics Division of the MGH Department of Radiation Oncology seeks a junior-level medical physicist. Under the direction of the Director of Clinical Physics, incumbent will provide full time clinical medical physics coverage duties, including treatment planning, IMRT QA, LINAC QA, and others, to the MGH Department of Radiation Oncology’s satellite radiotherapy clinics in suburban Boston.
The routine responsibilities include 3-D conformal, IMRT, VMAT, and SBRT treatment planning (~80%) and general medical physics support (~20%). General medical physics support will include, but is not limited to, regular clinical physics coverage, participation in commissioning, upgrade, repair, acceptance testing, monthly and annual QA of treatment equipment.
Position responsibilities include clinical trouble shooting, initial and weekly chart checks, treatment planning consultation and other routine clinical physics responsibilities.
The individual will be encouraged to participate in developmental efforts on various clinical physics projects and collaborate with the MGH main campus and other satellite facilities.
May be expected to work non-standard hours to support patient treatments; will be required to work in a radiation environment which is protected and monitored per federal and state regulations.
M.S. degree in medical physics or in a related field is required. Preferred candidates are graduates from a master's degree program in Medical Physics who have also completed a CAMPEP-approved residency. Strong preference for candidates with therapeutic medical physics certification from the American Board of Radiology (ABR); however, those with ABR eligibility will be considered, with the expectation of obtaining certification within the first three years of employment. Two to five years of clinical experience in the radiation oncology clinic is required.
The position requires an understanding of radiation physics, anatomy, physiology, clinical oncology, radiobiology, and radiation safety. The person should have good basic computer skills as well as those applicable to the position. Candidates with a strong experience in treatment planning and planning systems, particularly RayStation, are preferred. Experience with VisionRT, Varian LINACs (including OBI), and SBRT delivery are beneficial. Knowledgeable in health care informatics-including the resources, devices and methods to acquire, store and retrieve data. Tools include computers as well as clinical guidelines, current medical terminology, information and communication systems. Possess good communication and interpersonal skills to facilitate the exchange of information with patients, family members, and the radiation oncology treatment team as well as outside entities. The person must be able to work independently and in collaboration with other professionals.
