The Department of Radiation Oncology at the Baylor College of Medicine is recruiting for a full-time clinical therapy Medical Physics faculty position at the Assistant Professor, non-tenure track level at our main campus in Houston, Texas.
The successful candidate will join our existing team of dedicated Medical Physics faculty and will be responsible for supporting quality assurance, machine maintenance and calibration, patient treatment planning and treatment support as well as technology and workflow implementation. This position will also be expected to participate in all aspects of the teaching activities for radiation oncology residents, medical students, medical dosimetrists and radiation therapists.
Candidates for this position must have a M.S. or Ph.D. in medical physics, engineering, or related physical science. ABR certification in radiation oncology physics is required. Experience with Elekta Linear Accelerators, Monaco and RayStation treatment planning system strongly preferred. Experience with HDR brachytherapy also strongly preferred.
Facility and Equipment:
The Radiation Oncology Department is currently comprised of 3 faculty physicists, 8 radiation oncology residents, and 6 faculty radiation oncologists. The Department of Radiation Oncology at the Baylor College of Medicine provides a full range of clinical services at the Harris Health Smith Clinic location. Services provided include conformal radiotherapy, IMRT, cone-beam CT-guided radiotherapy, on-line portal imaging, stereotactic radiotherapy, and an active brachytherapy (low-dose and high-dose) program. The Department of Radiation Oncology is currently equipped with 3 Elekta Synergy linear accelerators, a large bore CT simulator with 4D capabilities, and a Varian VariSource brachytherapy afterloader unit. The department has access to clinical PET/CT and MR scanners. Treatment planning systems include Monaco and XiO from the Elekta Oncology Systems as well BrachyVision from Varian Medical. Patient specific IMRT is completed with the ArcCheck and MapCheck devices from Sun Nuclear. A variety of ion chambers as well as the Iba Blue Phantom are used for monthly and annual quality assurance. The department actively treats approximately 90 patients per day.
