The Environmental Health & Safety Offices is seeking a Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) to manage a comprehensive Radiation Safety program for the University of Iowa and the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics (UIHC) administered through the Radiation Safety Section of the Environmental Health & Safety Office (EHS). Position will oversee the planning, development, implementation of radiation safety programs, procedures and practices, facilitate regulatory-based policy development, and manage EHS staff and programs required to fulfill the requirements detailed in the University’s agreement state license issued by the State of Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH).
The RSO will manages the Radiation Safety section through strategic and budgetary planning, goal setting, project management, section activity coordination, report generation, and human resources management (with assistance of the HR Unit Representative).
The RSO will perform special operations and projects as assigned by the Director. Some or all of the duties performed in this position are designated as essential function(s) in the case of an emergency.

A Master's degree in Health Physics or closely related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
Extensive experience (5 - 7 years) in radiation safety and health physics performed within a research and/or health care environment.
Effective knowledge of health physics principles and practices for the medical and research use of radiation and radioactive materials, and the state and federal radiation regulations governing the use of radiation and radioactive materials.
Meet federal/state Radiation Safety Officer training and experience requirements.
Demonstrated job-related experience with and/or commitment to diversity in the work/academic environment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
