A full-time medical physics position is immediately available for an experienced clinical medical physicist at Indiana Regional Medical Center (IRMC) Cancer Center, Indiana, PA. The center is a part of UPMC Hillman Cancer Center network and its medical physics operations are supported by the Medical Physics Division of the Department of Radiation Oncology, UPMC Hillman Cancer Center. The center is equipped with Varian 23ex linac. Over the next few months, this linac will be replaced with a new Varian’s True Beam linac with on-board kV imaging, cone-beam CT and gated RapidArc delivery capabilities. Eclipse RTP with Aria information system is used at the center for treatment planning and information and image management system. HDR brachytherapy is offered using Varian’s GammaMed afterloader.
Primary responsibilities for the position include, but are not limited to: regular quality assurance testing and dosimetry calibration of radiation therapy equipment, routine treatment planning (3DCRT, IMRT etc), HDR brachytherapy, dosimetry and clinical implementation of intensity modulated radiation therapy, implementation of 4D CT and gated radiation therapy. The Medical Physics Division’s goal has been to expand its strong clinical program in physics with emphasis on IMRT, IGRT with CBCT/OBI, 4D CT and organ motion management. Successful candidate should have demonstrated clinical skills in these areas and is expected to function independently with excellent oral and written communication skills. The Board certification and at least three years of clinical experience are preferred.
Facility and Equipment:
UPMC Hillman Cancer Center is a leading organization in the nation in conducting academic research and clinical implementation of various state of the art technologies in radiation therapy. The network’s Cancer Centers are equipped predominantly with Varian linear accelerators with on board kV imaging and cone beam CT capabilities and also with Siemens and Elekta Linear accelerators, EPID imaging is available for all the linear accelerators. Other equipment includes Philips and GE CT units and PET/CT simulators (with 4D capability), Gamma Knife units, Cyberknife, Eclipse, and ADAC treatment planning systems, Nucletron HDR systems, and Aria, and Mosaiq information management systems. IMRT Treatment planning system is integrated at most sites allowing for connectivity and remote treatment planning.
