Community Hospital Radiation Oncology, a dynamic growing department with proximity to Chicago, has an immediate opening for a medical physicist 3 days per week.
We are located 30 miles from downtown Chicago adjacent to the Illinois/Indiana state line in suburban Munster, IN. The hospitals of Community Healthcare System are among the Best Hospitals in the greater Chicagoland area, according to U.S. News & World Report’s first metro area ranking. Community Healthcare System takes pride in its national reputation for delivering high quality patient care. As the largest integrated healthcare delivery system in Northwest Indiana, there are more than 6,000 employees and 900 physicians and allied health professionals on staff at our Northwest Indiana medical facilities.
We are now accepting applications from medical physicists who are either ABR certified in Therapeutic Medical Physics or will have graduated from a CAMPEP certified radiation oncology residency program and are active in the ABR certification process. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in all facets of our radiation oncology physics program including clinical support and quality assurance. The candidate’s primary assignment is at Community Hospital in Munster, IN, and will work with physicists at our St. Mary’s and St. Catherine’s locations.
Candidates should expect to do weekly chart checks, treatment plan second checks, some treatment planning (3D and VMAT), IMRT QA and occasional machine QA. The candidate may also assist in special physics procedures. Physicists at Community are involved in special procedures such as HDR brachytherapy, radioiodine ablation, Xofigo therapy and LDR prostate seed implants at least once per month. Both the St. Mary’s and Community locations perform Y-90 procedures approximately once or twice a month.
Current staffing at our two main campuses, Community and St. Mary’s, include five radiation oncologists, three physicists and four dosimetrists. Daily volume at these campuses is between 60-70 patients each day.
Treatment equipment for our two primary campuses include two Varian TrueBeams, one Varian Clinac and a Nucletron Microselectron HDR unit. The Truebeam systems perform stereotactic treatments, DIBH and respiratory gating. Our sister facility at St. Catherine Hospital has an Accuray Cyberknife system which performs brain, spine, liver and lung stereotactic treatments. Programs utilized by the physics department include Eclipse, Nucletron Oncentra, Rad Calc and ARIA.
Community Hospital has been accredited by the ACR in Radiation Oncology since 2012.
