Carilion Clinic has an immediate opening for a clinical diagnostic physicist to work in a community hospital setting. The main campus, anchored by a 700 bed hospital, is located in Roanoke, VA. There are many other medical and imaging facilities scattered throughout the Roanoke valley. In addition, Carilion Clinic operates another 6 satellite hospitals within a 70 mile radius. There are 17 CT, 14 FFDM/DBT/Stereo combo units, 9 MRI, 7 gamma cameras, 5 SPECT/CT, 2 PET/CT, 23 Ultrasound, 40 workstations and numerous fixed and mobile digital rad and fluoro units, in addition to over 1000 radiation badged individuals in the system. We are looking for an experienced, board certified diagnostic physicist to lead our ACR and state mandated compliance programs. The successful candidate is expected to be familiar with all diagnostic modalities and be qualified to perform, analyze, and submit state survey reports and ACR/IAC accreditation documents for each modality. Assistance with radiation safety duties is also expected.
Fully staffed, the Physics Department consists of three therapy physicists, two diagnostic physicists, three dosimetrists, two radiological engineers, plus two physics assistants. The Department supports radiation safety and image quality initiatives throughout the Carilion system. As such, the ideal candidate is expected to have good oral, written, and interpersonal skills, so as to be able to effectively problem solve with physicians, administrators, and technologists, as well as other physicists.
In addition to assuring compliance with regulatory policy, the Physics Department actively seeks to engage others in the constant improvement of image quality and radiation/MRI safety metrics. The successful candidate would be expected to actively participate in collaborative efforts with physician colleagues and others to make marked improvements in the arenas of quality, education, and safety. We seek individuals who don't just endeavor to check the boxes, but rather draw new boxes.
Roanoke is a tranquil, smaller city situated in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, with a slower pace of life and a rural setting that provides a perfect complement to Carilion's expanding healthcare presence, which includes a new medical school and a growing research institute. So, if you're tired of big city traffic and congestion, but still want to work in a dynamic professional environment, this could be what you're looking for.
