We are looking for an Engineering Physics Intern who is interested in spending 3 months (starting ~ May/June 2018) with the Systems Engineering group at Varian Medical Systems (Palo Alto, CA) that supports Varian’s radiation treatment delivery systems.
The ideal candidate for this position would be a junior physicist with an enthusiastic attitude and/or interest in applications of radiation physics in medicine with focus on the dosimetric aspects of radiation treatments. Specifically, we are looking for an individual to work on the integration of dosimetric plan verification tools into the validation and verification testing for various treatment modalities. The focus of this position will be to evaluate the latest feature set of modern radiation treatment linear accelerators. Knowledge or Python/Matlab for data analysis and experimental measurements skills are a plus. A prior knowledge of radiation physics is not required (training will be provided).
By the end of the summer, the intern should have a solid understanding of medical radiation treatment systems, their operational subsystems, and performance requirements associated with different treatment modalities. Most importantly the candidate will become part of a fun, dynamic, hard-working team of scientists and engineers located in Palo Alto, in the heart of Silicon Valley where limitless opportunities are available, from nature hikes, biking routes, amazing coast line and countless Silicon Valley technological opportunities.
BS/MS in Physics or Medical Physics (or working towards it), good problem-solving and problem trouble-shooting skills, hands-on experiment/lab aptitude, experience with Matlab/Office/Python for data analysis, excellent team work ability and communication skills.
