Faculty Physicist in the Department of Radiation Medicine at Northwell Health and Graduate Program Director for the Medical Physics Graduate Program at Hofstra University
We are seeking applicants for a coveted, senior faculty physicist in the Department of Radiation Medicine at Northwell Health. The Department of Radiation Medicine is the second largest radiation oncology department in the NY metropolitan area, seeing over 2,400 consults per year, and treating 250 patients daily. A team of 19 Physicists join 18 Radiation Oncologists, 8 Dosimetrists and department IT support. Machinery includes Varian TrueBeam accelerators, Gamma Knife, TomoTherapy, ZEISS Intrabeam and CyberKnife. The patient’s support systems with include 6DoF couches and IGRT systems include Calypso, AlignRT, CBCT and respiratory gating. The department has a vigorous Brachytherapy program including high-dose rate, low dose rate prostate seed implant program, microspheres, Xofigo, intro-operative treatment of breast and spine lesions, brain implants and intravascular brachytherapy. The department is nationally recognized for its evidence based practices, a quality and safety culture and the patient experience. Northwell Health imaging includes state of the art CT, MR and PET scanners.
The graduate study in medical physics at Hofstra University is a terminal MS program enrolling 5-6 new students per year. The medical physics core curriculum is taught by physics faculty staff at Northwell Health (Radiation Medicine and Radiology). The program director is expected to spend 50% of his/her time directing the CAMPEP accredited graduate program and teaching courses at Hofstra University. The other 50% of the time will be to provide clinical support, administration and research.
We are seeking candidates that have at least eight years of clinical experience, experience in teaching graduate classes, and mentoring and supervising students. The director will be responsible for organizational and administrative aspects. The ideal candidate is expected to bring the unique skill sets, and have a strong publication history. Experience in analytics is desirable.
