Provides medical physics leadership for the Billings Clinic Radiation Oncology Department and 2 affiliated sites including oversight, QA, and technical support for a range of advanced procedures including VMAT, IMRT, SRS, SBRT, and HDR. Participates in the supervision and performance of treatment planning, performs clinical quality assurance and related operational activities in clinic for physics division, plans and conducts in-service education and training programs for staff. Responsibilities include as appropriate, development/mentoring, coaching/ counseling, physician relationships, interdepartmental and intradepartmental activities, process improvement activities, customer relations, quality of service control. Assists with the development of objectives, policies and procedures relating to radiation therapy.
Billings Clinic is a 304 bed regional medical center serving eastern Montana, northern Wyoming, and western North and South Dakota. The Radiation Oncology department treats approximately 500 patients per year using Varian iX and Trilogy linear accelerators, Varisource HDR, and Gamma Knife. CT simulation is performed using a GE Lightspeed RT scanner and Advantage workstations. Eclipse treatment planning is employed with RapidArc and AcurosXB. The department is paperless and uses the Aria oncology information management system. The treatment team includes 3 radiation oncologists, 1 chief medical physicist, 2 staff medical physicists, 3 dosimetrists, and 7 radiation therapists at the primary site in Billings. Additionally, there is 1 radiation oncologist, 1 medical physicist, and 1 dosimetrist at an affiliated site in Missoula Montana. An array of advanced techniques are performed including lung, spine, and prostate SBRT, DIBH breast treatments, and HDR including GYN, breast APBI and prostate. Gamma Knife intracranial SRS is performed for brain metastases, primary brain lesions, trigeminal neuralgia, acoustic neuroma, arteriovenous malformation, meningioma, and essential tremor. The cancer center has a busy research program and participates in numerous clinical trials.
